Tips for Newcomers
Register with the Consulate
We cannot emphasize enough the importance of registering with the Consulate General for all American Citizens living in the Northeast.
The Consulate has put together a welcome kit with all the basic information you need as a newcomer; it will be given to you when you register. If you are already registered and would like a welcome kit, stop by the Consulate on Mondays, Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
If you cannot come in person, send us the registration form included on the back of this newsletter with a photocopy of your passport's first page. In case your passport is lost or stolen, this will facilitate your application for a new one. In any case it is a good idea to keep a photocopy of your passport at home in a safe place, in case it gets lost.
A mailing label has been included for your convenience. Be sure to answer "yes" to the question authorizing the consulate to release your name, address and telephone to our wardens unless, of course, you object.
Find out who the warden is for your area
He or she will be the person we contact first in case of an emergency. We have warden information in the consular section; please call us at: (024) 2322-1198. Also make sure you keep him or her informed when you leave, so that he or she does not try to reach you in vain.
